About binchotan charcoal
Why should you use binchotan charcoal?
It may seem new to purify your drinking water with a stick of charcoal, but the Japanese have been doing it for centuries. Binchotan is an activated charcoal made from tree branches and is known for its ability to soften water, add good minerals and absorb unwanted tastes and odors, such as chlorine.
How does it work?
Your charcoal is ready to use. Simply fill your bottle/jug with potable tap water and wait for the charcoal to filter out impurities from the water. Letting the process run its course at night is ideal, but even after an hour you can taste all the difference!
How long does it work?
Over time you will notice a reduction in the effectiveness of the filter on the water taste. You can recharge the charcoal by letting it boil in water for ten minutes. The boiling rinses away the impurities and releases the charcoal to absorb some more. Some people have more sensitive taste buds than others, so if you notice that the taste is less after 3 months, it is absolutely fine to cook it at this stage as well. This gives the binchotan charcoal a total lifespan of six months. As long as it produces the desired effect, it means it works!
